My Story

How did Positivity in Menopause come to be?

Hi! My name is Wendy and I am the founder of Positivity in Menopause.

I’ve created this space so that I can share with you my tips and tricks, thoughts and experiences about my journey through menopause.

As a fellow menopause champion, I understand what you are going through. I’m totally able to connect and resonate with your experiences, problems and frustrations! It’s a stage of life that usually comes to us all but yet it’s often a stage of life that gets pushed under the carpet and which we experience alone.

I want to change all of this!

I want this stage in our lives to be better understood, talked about, shared amongst us and above all generate feelings of optimism and positivity. Menopause needn’t be the negative and soul destroying experience it’s often painted to be. It’s a chance for renewal and quite literally ‘change’. So, let’s walk this path together so that you can Embrace Your Second Spring!

My story starts when I was in my late forties and I began to experience the symptoms most usually recognized as “being in menopause”.

I suffered daily with sleep problems, both in terms of quality of sleep and length of sleep, hot flushes, sweating, mood swings, headaches, fatigue, anxiety, palpitations, brain fog, weight gain……yes, I really did run the gauntlet! For medical reasons I was unable to take HRT, which is a common form of prescription medication that supports women through their menopause experience and is reported as being successful in helping to manage so many of the symptoms experienced by so many fellow menopause champions. As I couldn’t go down the medical relief route, I sought out alternative means of coping and managing the symptoms that I faced every day.

I took, and continue to take, supplements. I have incorporated daily coping strategies into my life to help with the symptoms that just seem to rear their head at any given time in the day (or night). I try to exercise to help my body to help itself, although I have to confess this is more a labour of necessity than love! I’ve armed myself through reading and learning with an array of tools that I can honestly say have helped me to get through the last 9 years of my life. I’m going to share all of this with you. My tips and tricks to taking back control of your body and turning this time of your life into one of personal development and growth. In effect, Positivity in Menopause.

Relaxation techniques, home fragrance and ‘me time’ can all help you to manage your symptoms.

One huge thing I noticed during my journey was a lack of fellow sufferers (or as I prefer the term…champions!) to talk to about it.

Menopause is seen as a problem and one we don’t really talk about.

I mean, oh yes, it’s becoming less of a ‘shhhhh’ subject as women begin to bring this part of our lives to the forefront but I found there to be a lot of medical and “informational information” but nothing “woman to woman” that promotes a sense of commonality and belonging. A community where it’s OK to talk about night sweats, body odour and feeling like a moody cow! A community that makes it OK to not feel OK. And so I’ve decided to create that community as part of the Positivity in Menopause experience…..a platform for us to share our journeys and just belong.

A sense of community, where women help and support each other.

So, as I continued to walk this path, seeking out alternative coping methods and skills, realizing I really had no ‘space’ in which to share my concerns or learn from others, I also realized that there is so much stigma and negativity associated with this part of a woman’s life.

For a lot of women, turning 50 is a huge step in our personal development and empowerment.

For many, they are experiencing empty nest syndrome as children fly the coop and they are left with more free time for themselves.

For others, 50 can be a time of self-enlightenment when you have this dawning realization that I’ve come this far, probably won many battles and experienced much about life. That understanding can bring about improvement in self-confidence, a sense of “I can do anything” and I’ve still so many years left to enjoy my life my way.

This is exactly what happened to me!

My lightbulb moment!

Coming out of a divorce after a long marriage left me feeling unsure about my future. Fortunately, I had built a good career throughout my life and I enjoyed my job and the people I worked with, but I suddenly had this thought that this was my life until I died! And I probably (hopefully!) still had some 30 years left to go before that day happened! My finances were at best OK, my kids were getting older and more independent….so what about me? What did I want for my next chapter?

After some serious introspection I decided I wanted three things from my future:

  • I wanted the freedom of time to enjoy life. A corporate role and a Monday to Friday job didn’t allow me the freedom to do what I wanted, when I wanted and where I wanted.
  • I wanted financial freedom. My salary was decent enough but it didn’t permit me the freedom to help and nurture my family in the way I wanted. It also didn’t promise me the life in retirement I wanted and believed I deserved.
  • Above all, I wanted the freedom to do something for the rest of my life that I LOVE. Something that I wake up to every day and do because I LOVE IT. Something that will enable me to share my life experiences with others. Something that will enable me to give back.

So, I hear you ask….how did she get from being there to where she is now?

In short, I think it might be destiny/God/fate/the universe that helped me to get from A to B.

I was scrolling through social media one evening when I came across an ad for a community of entrepreneurs, mentors and coaches that help people to build online businesses. I confess to knowing absolutely nothing about this platform or the people in it when I encountered the ad. The post I read just resonated with me. It explained how they could help and support me in building a better future for myself via creating an online business.

Like I said, I wanted a change. I wanted a new challenge, something that was mine and something that would give me time and financial freedom as well as being something that I LOVED.

So, I took a leap of faith and went for it. What had I to lose? They only asked for my email address!

I entered my email address and was sent a free series of videos showing exactly how I could make an online business my dream business and my reality. From that day, as corny as it sounds, my life changed.

Through a series of coaching webinars and educational videos I am now at this point where I’ve identified that I want to help other women. Women who are going through menopause and feel as if they need education, support, tips and tricks and most importantly that they are not alone. The support and guidance I received from the platform has resulted in my creation of Positivity in Menopause. This platform has already proven to amaze, enlighten and teach me and it’s going to help me achieve the freedoms I mentioned above that will bring me the “rest of my life fulfillment” I’ve been seeking.

And that is my journey in a nutshell.
